I knew nothing about artist and St. Louis native Joe Jones until striking ads for this exhibit featuring the Eads Bridge caught my eye. Like most artists, his personal story is as interesting as his artwork. Starting out as a society portrait painter, his strongest work came later as he documented urban landscapes, racial injustices, and dustbowl farmers. Bravo to the curator for assembling a large-scale exhibit of works mostly held by private collectors.
