December 2010 - King Tut, Discovery Times Square Exposition

This exhibit has been in NYC on 3 of my previous trips so I figured now was the time to see it since it closes in January, 2011. Visitor beware: though the Golden Mask is used to advertise this exhibit, it is NOT on view and is never to leave Egypt again. Also, another exhibit featuring other artifacts from King Tut's tomb is traveling the world concurrently so by no means is this exhibit complete. Why did I go? Mainly because I'm nostalgic for the trip I took with my family in 1977 to see the Treasures of Tutankhamun exhibit at Chicago's Field Museum. I still vividly remember seeing the Golden Mask, still one of the most beautiful artifacts I've ever seen. I also remember my Grandma Kim (aka Orpha Kimball) swiping the sample copy of the exhibition catalog from the gift shop. After her death, I "inherited" this book and it is still my most treasured "artifact" of hers. It still has the "SAMPLE" sign laminated to the front cover advertising that it was for sale for $5!
