BBAJ Weeks 6/7: In the theater!

I skipped blogging for a week since the past two weeks were pretty much identical. We had 6 more rehearsals, 3 each week, all in the theater with each rehearsal bringing more and more of the set into place. Each night we ran the show once, tweaking it more and more every time. One example involving my characters: I now interrogate Andrew Jackson as John Calhoun instead of as "Congressman #2," so goodbye Urkel and Church Lady!

Working in the theater takes a lot adjustment as far as timing of entrances and knowing where/when you need to be ready to go on stage. Unlike a rehearsal space, where you can easily jump into a scene at a second's notice if you haven't been paying attention to the action, you are much more isolated backstage in a theater, where you can't see what scene is currently being played. After a while though you figure out how much time you have between scenes so you know when you can pee, smoke (not me, Mom!), or eat dinner ("Crisis Averted" for me!).

We haven't started running the show with props and costumes yet, but that will add another twist to the timing of each scene. One thing I have started to do is tweet out the video I've been taking during "Public Life," where the people really get up in Jackson's face. Our show's hashtag is #BloodyNewLine so all of our tweets (I'm @How2PossessACat) can be found by searching it on twitter. Here's one of the videos from this past week:

Our week coming up, the one right before we open, is affectionately known as "hell week." Until then, check out one of our demented promo shots, which we took on our first night in the theater:
