It usually don't write about national tours, but I made an exception with Flashdance since it is considered pre-Broadway and the tour is fairly new (St. Louis was the second stop I think). This was pretty much what I expected: the movie on stage augmented by a completely forgettable score. That's not to say that it doesn't have its merits, because it has one huge one: fantastic dances by choreographer Sergio Trujillo (Memphis, Jersey Boys, Next to Normal) in his first outing as a director. I really wish that this production would dispense with the dialogue and new score, and instead become a full blown ballet ala Movin' Out, but set to an 80s soundtrack. Not only would that bring its main strength front and center, but it would also smooth over and elevate the plot that is otherwise dragged down by cheez, cheez, and more cheez. Loved the ladies attending the show in their leg-warmers and oversized sweatshirts though!
